About

Equality Across America (EAA) is a growing network of grassroots activists and organizations fighting for full Federal equality for LGBTQ people.  A concept that was conceived and nurtured by the National Equality March in Washington DC on October 11th, 2009, activists came together to begin building a system of communication that would eventually be nationwide.  Since then, we’ve made some great strides.  Our work has just begun.

Although we are a national network, we are not a typical national organization.

The movement for equality cannot be driven by corporate-acting LGBTQ establishments.  EAA has an elected leading board, but that board has the responsibility of maintaining an efficiently running network while laying down the groundwork for an organization that is actually driven by the people, run by the people and supported by the people.  It’s not easy to stay true to that mission in today’s society, so we also work hard to keep our doors open to new ideas, new perspectives and most importantly newly involved activists.

How is the network organized and activated?

The organizers for the National Equality March developed a system to keep groups affiliated with the EAA network all in touch.  That idea has evolved into the EAA F.E.A.T. network – Federal Equality Action Teams.  Our goal is to have one in all 435 congressional districts in the country, but we know that is no small feat.  (Get it, feat.)

Equality Across America was born out of the spirit of more than 200,000 marchers in Washington DC last October, so common action is engraved in our roots.  We will bring forth ideas to the network and work to unite the movement, but everyone who wants to be involved in the process of deciding the next steps is welcome and needed.  Whether it’s regional conferences hosted by independently organized coalitions, or a national call to action on Harvey Milk Day, our mission includes remaining visible.

Although our network is still in development, we plan on using it!

Since EAA is working to get activists in touch with each other from every spot in the United States, we often have national or regional conference calls to stay in touch, brainstorm calls to action and pow-wow.
